Music Identification and Rights Reporting.

Music Identification and Rights Reporting: How RadioMan Produces Fingerprints and Integrates with a Rights Management System

Accurate music identification and reliable reporting are essential to modern radio operations. Broadcasters air huge amounts of content every day, and copyright organizations need precise data to ensure royalties are distributed correctly. RadioMan’s Fingerprint and Media Export plugins help automate this process, making it easier to capture, identify, and deliver music metadata and fingerprints to rights-management systems. The Challenge: Identifying New and Local Music Many broadcasters rely on FM monitoring systems to track what’s being played on air. These systems use audio fingerprinting to compare detected audio against a database of known works. Each track has a unique fingerprint along with the relevant copyright metadata. When a match is found, the information can be used to calculate royalties. The process gets trickier when a station plays new or unreleased music, or music by local artists. In those cases, the copyright organization may not yet have the track or its fingerprint in its database. At first, the only place this new music exists is inside the broadcaster’s own radio automation system, so the gap needs to be bridged before external monitoring systems can recognize it. Automating the Fingerprinting Workflow in RadioMan To solve this challenge, RadioMan connects to a dedicated fingerprinting service. When new music is added, the Fingerprint Plugin automatically generates fingerprints using the fingerprinting engine running within RadioMan. The workflow is fully automated: Administrators can configure rules such as: Once fingerprinting is complete for newly created songs, the Media Export Plugin is notified, and the assets are ready for delivery. Delivering Metadata and Fingerprints via the Media Export Plugin The Media Export Plugin handles the final step by delivering fingerprints and metadata to the external copyright organization’s database. RadioMan connects to the organization’s API and uploads both the fingerprints and the related metadata. With the plugin, users can define: When metadata changes in RadioMan, the plugin automatically re-exports the updated information to keep the external system up to date. A Reliable Integration for Rights-Management Workflows Together, the Fingerprint and Media Export plugins create a smooth connection between RadioMan and the fingerprinting and identification infrastructure. This means: This integration is already in active use with real-world customers and supports reliable, scalable rights-management workflows across different markets. Looking to improve compliance and accuracy in your music reporting workflows? Contact us about integrating RadioMan with your existing rights-management systems.

A Modern Approach to Sports Broadcasting blog image.

Use Case: A Modern Approach to Sports Broadcasting

Live sports broadcasting requires speed, accuracy, and the ability to switch between multiple games the moment something changes in the action. Traditional “Hockey Night”–style broadcasts often require complex routing, hardware-heavy field setups, and a technical team at every arena. Coordinating live interviews, commentary, and updates across several rinks can easily become a logistical challenge. RadioMan® Lamppu transforms this process. It brings the entire multisite workflow into a single mobile app that integrates seamlessly with the browser-based RadioMan® system. Instead of relying on codecs, mixers, or physical equipment at each location, journalists contribute live from their mobile devices, while the studio controls the entire program in real-time. The Challenge: Fast-Paced, Multi-Arena Coverage A typical Hockey Night show may include: In a traditional setup, this would mean separate codecs at each site, heavy audio gear, and dedicated engineering support. It increases costs and slows workflows, especially when multiple arenas are involved. RadioMan Lamppu removes these barriers by enabling everything through mobile devices connected to a cloud-based backend. Journalists can focus on reporting, while the studio operates from an intuitive browser interface. The Live Workflow: Hockey Night with Lamppu For a Hockey Night broadcast, the studio host manages music, transitions, and program elements through RadioMan On-Air. Meanwhile, journalists preparing for interviews or commentary join the broadcast through the Lamppu mobile app on iOS or Android. Journalists connected to the studio can follow the program output in real time, which makes it easy to hit the exact timing. When the host gives the signal to cut to the arena, the journalist simply taps the broadcast button in Lamppu. The system instantly shifts into clean spoken audio, automatically lowering any background music. Once the live segment ends, the music fades back in without any manual mixing. Because everything runs inside the same ecosystem, transitions feel natural, fast, and consistently broadcast-ready. Coordinated Production Across Multiple Arenas RadioMan On-Air displays every contributor clearly, with names appearing automatically as soon as they connect. Both contributors and producers can control the faders in real time, while the producers set general contributing and routing permissions. A two-way Talkback feature keeps communication clear behind the scenes. Journalists and studio staff can coordinate off-air without affecting the live output, and talkback audio never leaks into the program. When talkback is active, the system automatically lowers the program audio and restores it afterward, ensuring off-air conversations remain clear and easy to follow. Lamppu also supports secure guest access, allowing analysts, athletes, or remote experts to join without any technical setup or hardware. Reliable Audio Architecture Designed for Live Sports Behind the scenes, the RadioMan Media Node handles all audio mixing and broadcast output. It can run in the cloud or in a traditional studio and includes an integrated audio processor for level control, compression, and sound enhancement. This ensures the broadcast sounds consistent, whether it is streamed online or aired on FM or DAB. Multiple production points can contribute simultaneously, enabling distributed teams to collaborate without requiring additional infrastructure. Even the lightest setup is enough. A journalist can use a simple headset and a USB audio interface to deliver professional-quality audio. Cost-Effective Coverage Without Heavy Equipment One of the biggest advantages for a Sports Night production is the reduction in hardware. Without the need for codecs, mixers, or on-site engineering, broadcasters can focus on storytelling rather than setup and configurations. Updates are automatic, maintenance is minimal, and the workflow is easily scalable. Stations can run continuous coverage or activate the system only on game days. Additional journalists can join without adding new equipment, which is ideal for fast-paced sports coverage where flexibility is key. In practice, Lamppu replaces an entire case of legacy broadcast gear with a single mobile app. The Result: A Faster, More Flexible Multisite Broadcast With RadioMan Lamppu, multisite sports or event broadcasting becomes simple, predictable, and highly adaptable. Contributors connect instantly from multiple locations, the studio manages transitions flawlessly, and audio mixing happens automatically. Music, player interviews, and commentary all blend smoothly, even when switching rapidly between games. The workflow mirrors the energy of the sport: fast, reactive, and engaging. The Future of Sports Broadcasting RadioMan Lamppu gives broadcasters a modern, flexible way to manage multisite coverage. It provides journalists with mobility, producers with precise control, and audiences with consistently high-quality audio. From nationwide roundups to local game coverage, Lamppu enables professional, reliable multisite broadcasting from almost anywhere.
