Challenge
YLE needed to modernize large-scale radio operations and transition from legacy client-server infrastructure to flexible cloud-based production workflows.
Solution
Jutel deployed a browser-based RadioMan environment supporting cloud production, virtualized playout, IP audio workflows, and centralized operations.
Result
YLE successfully introduced cloud-supported radio production workflows across national and regional channels with scalable, future-ready broadcast infrastructure.
YLE Modernized Radio Operations with Browser-Based Cloud Production
Since 2018, Jutel has supported YLE’s transformation from legacy client-server broadcasting toward browser-based cloud production environments. Building on an existing nationwide RadioMan® deployment, the project introduced modern cloud-supported workflows, flexible playout configurations, and scalable production infrastructure for future broadcast operations.

Background
YLE operates one of the largest radio production environments in the Nordic region, with more than 1700 workstations supporting national and regional broadcasting across Finland and Sweden.
To modernize future operations, YLE began transitioning from traditional legacy systems toward browser-based and cloud-supported production workflows. The project focused on flexible playout configurations, IP audio, centralized infrastructure, and virtualized production environments.
RadioMan played a central role in enabling this transformation.
The Transformation
The goal of the project was to create a browser-based radio production and playout environment where audio mixing and playout could be managed through cloud-supported infrastructure without dedicated studio hardware.
The deployment introduced virtualized playout and recording environments built on web-native technologies including HTML5, REST APIs, ActiveMQ messaging, and WebRTC audio streaming.
YLE launched its first live productions on the new platform in June 2019, beginning with YleX, Yle X3M, and YLE Puhe. The broader rollout later expanded toward regional operations.
Why RadioMan?
RadioMan® enabled YLE to move toward a streamlined browser-based broadcast architecture supporting traditional studios, virtual production environments, IP audio workflows, and flexible cloud-supported operations.
The web-based user interface simplifies updates and operational management while supporting scalable production, playout, and future operational growth.
